🇳🇬Singapore visit visa for Nigerian passport holders

Singapore Visa for Nigerian Citizens

If you hold an ordinary Nigerian passport, Singapore expects you to have a visa before you travel; diplomatic, official and service passports are exempt. Most Nigerian paperwork is already in English, so the practical work lies elsewhere: the letter of introduction, consistent names across every document, and a passport with enough validity.

ICA lifts the visa requirement for diplomatic, official and service passports.

Singapore’s position on Nigerian passports

Nigeria is one of the countries ICA lists as needing a Singapore entry visa. The rule is attached to the document: if Nigeria issued the passport you will present, you need an approved visa before setting off.

ICA’s Nigeria page exempts three passport categories: diplomatic, official and service. If you will travel on one of those, you can skip the application described here. Everyone travelling on an ordinary Nigerian passport, whatever the reason for a short trip, does need the visa.

Because English is Nigeria’s official language, most supporting papers, from employment letters to bank statements, are already in English and need no translation. ICA’s translation rule still matters in two situations: a record written in another language, or a document issued in a non-English-speaking country where you live or work.

We prepare the file, check that names and dates agree across it, and lodge it through a route ICA accepts. The Singapore authorities alone decide on the visa and on your admission.

Our work on a Nigerian application

  • Name consistency review

Surname, first name and every middle name are matched across the passport, forms and bookings.

  • Letter of introduction

Form V39A is read against your application so that the two describe the same person and trip.

  • Requirement labels

We tag every document: ICA requirement, possible ICA request, or our own standard.

  • Lodging and the decision

We file the completed application and send you ICA’s outcome by email.

Three things are worth settling at the start: a full name copied exactly from the passport, a signed Form V39A in hand, and at least six months left on the passport after arrival.

Which Nigerian travellers need the visa

Below, ICA’s Nigeria guidance is applied to common situations. These examples explain the rules and are not a forecast of any decision.

  • Ordinary passport holders in Nigeria

Applicants in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu or anywhere else in Nigeria need a visa, and the steps on this page apply.

  • Nigerians abroad

Living in the United Kingdom, Ghana, the UAE or elsewhere on a Nigerian passport does not remove the requirement. It may simply change which Singapore mission or appointed visa agent you use.

  • Diplomatic, official and service passport holders

All three categories are exempt under ICA’s Nigeria page; ordinary checkpoint requirements still apply.

  • Business travellers

On a business trip, your Form V39A signatory has to speak for the Singapore-registered firm you are seeing.

  • Nigerians with a second citizenship

If you will use another country’s passport for the trip, check ICA’s rules for that passport rather than this page.

ICA’s rules for Nigeria

  • Ordinary Nigerian passports require a visa; ICA exempts the diplomatic, official and service categories.
  • A non-English document goes in three forms: original, official English translation, and a copy for ICA.
  • Form V39A is required, signed by a local contact or, if there is none, provided by your Embassy.
  • The passport must still be valid six months after you enter Singapore.

Standards we add for Nigerian files

  • Your full name, including middle names, identical on every form and booking.
  • A hotel reservation and confirmed travel that meet our checklist.
  • Our prices and estimates as published here.
  • Our cancellation and refund rules.

These standards help us present an orderly file. ICA decides independently, and no visa or admission can be guaranteed.

Putting together a Nigerian visa file

ICA’s requirements are listed first. Items that depend on your circumstances follow, and our own booking standard, which ICA does not set, comes last. ICA does not publish a minimum bank balance or income figure for Nigerian applicants.

  1. ICA requirement

    Signed Form 14A

ICA treats your declarations in Form 14A as the basis of the application and may ask to see the signed form. Answer every question and keep the signed original.

  2. ICA requirement

    Colour photograph

Passport-sized, taken within the past three months and meeting ICA’s photo guidelines.

  3. ICA requirement

    Copy of the biodata page

The passport page with your photograph, names and passport number. Six months of validity must remain after you enter Singapore.

  4. ICA requirement

    Form V39A

The letter of introduction is part of ICA’s list for Nigeria. ICA lets a local contact sign it provided they hold Singapore citizenship or PR, are 21 or above and have Singpass, and, on business trips, act for the company in Singapore.

If no one in Singapore can provide it, ICA accepts a letter of introduction from your Embassy for social or business visits.

  5. Conditional · ICA rule for non-English records

Documents in a language other than English

Most Nigerian records are already in English. If you include one that is not, for example an employment letter in French from a job in Benin or Côte d’Ivoire, ICA requires the original plus an official English translation and copies it can keep.

Using that example, ICA would accept a translation by the embassy of Benin or Côte d’Ivoire, by a notary public in that country or in Singapore, or a private translation certified afterwards through that embassy’s attestation or such a notary’s notarisation. ICA endorses no private translation business.

  6. Case by case · ICA may request

    Further supporting documents

ICA reserves the right to ask for more and warns that thinly documented applications may not be accepted. Nothing extra is listed in advance, so reply quickly if a request comes.

  7. Our submission standard

    Hotel and travel reservations

Under our standard, the file needs at least three nights booked at a hotel of three-star grade or above, with confirmed flights in and out of Singapore. Short-term rentals or stays with a host do not replace the hotel booking.

Our requirements page shows an example biodata scan and a photo that meets the standard.

Go to the requirements checklist

ICA can still ask for more. Supplying everything listed supports the application without deciding it.

Fees for Nigerian passport holders

Each price is per applicant and in US dollars. It covers the ICA government visa fee and our professional service charge together; the government share is not shown separately. Choose your requested entry type and service speed.

Timeframes for Nigerian applications

Our handling estimates start once your documents are complete; ICA’s processing starts when the application is submitted. They are separate, and neither is a fixed date.

Normal service

Our handling

5–7 working days

Suits applicants whose Form V39A is already signed.

Express service

Our handling

3–5 days

A shorter turnaround from us for a higher fee; ICA’s processing is unaffected.

  • ICA’s guidance

Applications are processed within three working days of submission, the submission day not included, according to ICA. Some take longer, and every application is considered on its own merits.

  • The introduction letter

Waiting for a local contact or Embassy to sign Form V39A can take longer than anything else. Ask early.

  • Within 30 days of arrival

Aim to apply during the final 30 days before departure, as ICA suggests.

Applying from Lagos, Abuja or abroad

Nigerian applications have two routes into ICA. One is an online filing on the e-Service, made by a strategic partner or by a Singapore contact on your behalf. The other runs through a Singapore Overseas Mission, in person or via the visa agent it has appointed, as the mission’s website explains. Applying on arrival at the immigration counter is not possible. Our steps:

  1. Step 1

    Confirm passport type and validity

An ordinary passport that will not expire within six months of landing.

  2. Step 2

    Arrange Form V39A

From your local contact or, if you have none, from your Embassy.

  3. Step 3

    Complete Form 14A

Enter your surname, first name and all middle names exactly as the passport shows them.

  4. Step 4

    Translate anything not in English

Only if you include a non-English record; use a source ICA accepts.

  5. Step 5

    Review and payment

We check the file and email anything to fix; then you pay according to entry type and speed.

  6. Step 6

    Lodging and e-Visa

We lodge the application. Approval comes as an e-Visa, printable from ICA’s e-Service by whoever filed it.

During the trip, keep the e-Visa, a passport copy and our emails where you can reach them.

Nigerian passport and photo requirements

ICA sets the validity rule and the photo requirement. The rest of this list reflects our review.

ICA requirement

Passport

Check that the expiry date falls at least six months after your planned arrival. If it does not, renew before applying.

Scan the biodata page completely, keeping the photo, both name fields and the machine-readable lines readable.

If you recently replaced your passport, make sure Form V39A and every booking use the new passport number.

ICA requirement

Photograph

ICA asks for a recent colour picture in passport format, under three months old, with no alteration or enhancement, as set out in its photo guidelines. Our checks add:

  • Age: within three months.
  • Background: plain and light.
  • Pose: face fully visible, looking ahead.
  • Editing: no filters or retouching.
  • Quality: in focus with even light.

Entering Singapore after approval

Your e-Visa lets you travel and request entry. It is not an immigration pass in ICA’s terms, and the length of your stay is fixed when you arrive.

Travelling with the e-Visa

Use it within its validity, on the same passport, and keep a copy.

Period of stay

ICA emails an electronic Visit Pass on entry stating how long you may stay; the visa’s validity does not set it.

At the checkpoint

ICA officers make the admission decision; an approved visa is not a guarantee of entry.

Changing flights in Singapore

Nigerian passports sit outside ICA’s Visa-Free Transit Facility. Any layover plan that involves passing through immigration should be checked with ICA first.

Nigerian families travelling to Singapore

A family trip means one application per person. Small name differences between relatives’ files are easy to miss, so we review them together.

  • One applicant each

Every parent and child has a separate application and pays one applicant price.

  • Passports for children

Each child needs an individually issued passport; ICA does not accept collective travel documents.

  • Married names

If a spouse’s passport shows a married surname, that version should appear on every form and booking for that person.

  • Shared itinerary

Keep the same hotel dates and flights for the whole family.

Mistakes we screen for in Nigerian files

These are the errors our review is built to catch before lodging. Because ICA judges every case individually, the purpose is accuracy, not a prediction of the outcome.

  1. Leaving out a middle name

If the passport shows Oluwaseun Adebayo Okonkwo, writing only Seun Okonkwo on the form or ticket creates a mismatch.

  2. Swapped surname and first name

Booking systems sometimes reverse name order. Check that the surname field holds the passport surname.

  3. A nickname on the booking

Short forms such as Chi for Chinonso or Tunde for Babatunde should not appear on official documents.

  4. Too little passport validity

Six months is counted from your arrival date, not the application date.

  5. A business letter from a friend

A personal acquaintance cannot sign for a business visit; the letter has to come from the Singapore company’s side.

  6. A non-English document without translation

A record in French or another language needs an official English translation, even if the rest of the file is in English.

Refunds for Nigerian applicants

A summary of how cancellation and refunds work for our tourist visa service. The Refund Policy page sets out the full rules.

Before submission to ICA

Cancelling before we submit

If you cancel before we submit your application to ICA, a cancellation fee of USD $50 applies per applicant and application.

The fee is deducted from the amount you paid, and the remaining eligible amount is refunded, subject to applicable law.

After submission to ICA

Once the application is submitted

After submission to ICA, the paid visa service fee is non-refundable, subject to applicable law.

A refusal does not by itself make a submitted application refundable.

If you believe a payment was duplicated or charged incorrectly, contact us so that we can review it. Legally required refunds and billing errors are handled separately.

Nothing in these rules limits statutory consumer rights that cannot be waived.

Nigerian applicants ask

Brief answers for holders of Nigerian passports. Answers that describe our practice, rather than ICA’s rules, say so.

Do Nigerians need a visa to visit Singapore?

On an ordinary passport, yes. ICA’s Nigeria page requires a visa for Nigerian travel documents and exempts diplomatic, official and service passports.

View the requirements

I travel on a Nigerian official passport. Do I apply?

No. Official passports are one of the three exempt categories on ICA’s Nigeria page, alongside diplomatic and service passports.

Is there a minimum bank balance for Nigerian applicants?

ICA does not publish one for Nigeria. It may request additional supporting documents case by case, and we do not quote figures ICA has not published.

Do my Nigerian documents need translating?

Only if they are not in English. Most Nigerian records are, but a non-English one requires an official English version produced or certified by a source ICA accepts.

Who signs Form V39A if I know no one in Singapore?

Your Embassy can. Where no local contact can sign, ICA’s Nigeria page allows an Embassy-issued introduction letter for both social and business trips.

I live in London on a Nigerian passport. Where do I apply?

The rule does not change with residence. Your application can go through ICA’s e-Service, filed by a strategic partner or local contact, or through a Singapore mission or its appointed visa agent near you.

Must I include my middle names?

As our own practice, yes: we ask for every name printed in the passport on the form and on bookings, in the same order.

What processing time does ICA quote?

ICA’s figure is three working days after the submission day, though certain applications run longer. Our own estimates are measured separately.

Is a visa-free layover possible on a Nigerian passport?

No visa-free stopover applies, since Nigerian passports are outside the Visa-Free Transit Facility. Speak to ICA before booking any connection that takes you out of the airport.

Do I still file the SG Arrival Card?

Yes. The arrival card costs nothing and is a separate step from the visa; all travellers except narrow exemptions submit it during the three days leading up to arrival, arrival day included.

About the SG Arrival Card

How do cancellations work for a Nigerian application?

Before submission to ICA, a USD $50 cancellation fee applies per applicant and application, and the remaining eligible amount is refunded, subject to applicable law. After submission, the paid visa service fee is non-refundable, subject to applicable law.
